Emma Raducanu started with a straight-set victory versus Serena Williams at the start of the WTA 1000 Western & Southern Open. The British tennis talent needed 65 minutes to win by 2-0 (6:4, 6:0) versus the former world’s number one.
The first set started with a break of the service of Serena Williams and Emma Raducanu took a lead from the very beginning. The US tennis star returned the break, but the British talent returned her advantage again and won the set with 6:4.
In the second set, Emma Raducanu was unstoppable and won it on zero, thus qualifying for the second round, where she will face Victoria Azarenka.
Karolina Pliskova defeated Venus Williams in the first round by 2-0 (7:5, 6:1). In the next round, the Czech tennis player will face Elise Mertens.
