The British teenager Emma Raducanu qualified for the quarter-finals of the US Open after dismantling Shelby Rogers in a straight-set match for a little more than an hour. The British player won by 2-0 (6:2, 6:1) without giving a chance for her American opponent.
The match started terribly for Emma Raducanu, who lost the first two games and received a break from Shelby Rogers. However, she put the match under control taking 6 consecutive games, including three breaks, to win the first set with 6:2.
The second set continues under the total dominance of the British tennis talent, who registered two breaks and take a lead of 5:0. Shelby Rogers won her next service game, but it was quite insufficient and Emma Raducanu won the set with 6:1.
In the previous round, Shelby Rogers eliminated the world’s No 1 Ashleigh Barty but proved unable to oppose Emma Raducanu’s precise play. The young tennis player has not lost a set in the tournament yet. She is only the third qualifier to reach the quarterfinals of the US Open. Her next opponent will be Belinda Bencic from Switzerland.
In addition to Emma Raducanu, there will be another teenager in the quarterfinals – Leylah Annie Fernandez. This had not happened at the US Open 2009.
