Emma Raducanu insists that working on her gameplay, rather than winning matches

British tennis player Emma Raducanu has insisted that working on her gameplay, rather than winning matches, is her priority this year. The former US Open champion has won three out of the seven matches she has played in 2024 in her comeback from surgery on both wrists and one ankle last spring.

Emma Raducanu will play against Spanish qualifier Rebeka Masarova in the first round of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open tennis tournament, for which she received a “wild card”.

The 21-year-old British tennis player, who reached the fourth round of last year’s event, has been training in London for the past few weeks.

“I want to work on becoming a better tennis player”, said Emma Raducanu. “I think right now I’m not that worried about this year’s tournaments. A lot of people would say I need matches, but I think the most important thing for me is to work on my game and my development. I need time to do that, not just follow the crowd or play a lot of matches. I want to work on my development”, added she.

The tennis player added that she is likely to play in next month’s Billie Jean King Cup in Great Britain’s match against France if she is selected for her country’s team.
