Emma Raducanu drops in the WTA ranking but believes in the new start

Last year’s US Open champion Emma Raducanu suffered another disappointment and was eliminated in the first round by Alize Cornet by 0-2 (3:6, 3:6) at the US Open 2022.

Thus, the British tennis player will lose the 2,000 points from her triumph last season and will seriously collapse in the world rankings.

Emma Raducanu was in the top 10 in July, but now the defeat means she will be around 80th in the WTA rankings after the tournament, and could drop as low as 90th.

The 19-year-old Briton has had 15 wins and 19 losses since becoming Grand Slam champion.

“It’s certainly disappointing. I’m sad to be leaving at this stage. This is probably my favorite tournament’, said Emma Raducanu. “At the same time, in a way, I’m happy because I’m going to continue clean. I will go down in the ranking and I will have to climb again”, commented the British tennis player, who added that some of the tension will decrease.

“I think I’ve done a good job in recent weeks. I want to achieve consistency. We’ll see if it happens,” she added.

Emma Raducanu believes the year would have been marked as a good one for her if it weren’t for the high standards after winning the US Open 2021.

She played two quarterfinals, which she lost to Iga Swiatek in Stuttgart and to Ludmilla Samsonova in Washington.

“I’m just going to start over. I don’t know what my ranking will be, probably pretty low. As a 19-year-old, I can say that it wasn’t a bad year. If you had told me 12 months ago that I would be in the top 100, I would have been happy. I think the most exciting thing is trying to do well in every single tournament. I’m ready for new challenges, no matter what. I think that every tennis player would be happy to win a given tournament”, commented Emma Raducanu.
