British tennis player Emma Raducanu, who was eliminated in the second round of the WTA 250 Auckland Open tennis tournament after withdrawing with an injury, said she was upbeat ahead of the competition.
Emma Raducanu sprained her left ankle in her match against Slovakian Viktoria Kužmova with a score of 1-1 (6:0, 5:7), and the injury puts her participation in the upcoming Australian Open into question.
“I’ve put in a lot of work in the gym over the last few months. I felt good and I was optimistic”, said Emma Raducanu. “To be sidelined with an injury like that is very disappointing and in the first week. I think I played pretty decent tennis. The courts are slippery, so it’s honestly not a surprise that something like this happened to someone”, added she.
The Australian Open starts on January 16.
Emma Raducanu is a British professional tennis player. She reached a career-high ranking of No 10 by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) on July 11, 2022, and is the current British No 1.
