Emma McKeon won the gold medal in the women’s 100m freestyle swimming at the Tokyo Olympics

The Australian swimmer Emma McKeon won the gold medal in the women’s 100m freestyle at the Tokyo Olympics. She set a new Olympic record with a time of 51.96 seconds.

Hong Kong’s Siobhan Haughey won the silver medal with a result of 52.27 seconds, and Cate Campbell from Australia took the bronze with 52.52 seconds.

“Honestly I still can’t believe it. I can’t believe that I just won a gold medal. I think it will take a bit to sink in. Probably once I get to Bolhy [coach Michael Bohl] the emotion will really come out”, said Emma McKeon after the race.

Emma McKeon has won eight Olympic medals, including three gold, at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, eleven medals, including one gold, at the World Aquatics Championships, as well as twelve medals, including eight gold, at the 2014 Glasgow and 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

The swimming continues with the final evening of heats at Tokyo 2020. Emma McKeon and Cate Campbell will be back in the pool for the women’s 50m freestyle.
