Swedish biathlete Elvira Oeberg is preparing to step out of the shadow of her older sister Hanna Oeberg in anticipation of the mixed relay in the biathlon competitions at the Beijing 2022 Olympics on Saturday.
Hanna Oeberg, who won a gold and silver Olympic medal at the Pyeongchang 2018, is currently in fifth place in the World Cup standings, two positions behind her sister, 22-year-old Elvira Oeberg.
“This will be my first Olympic race and I am very excited. It will probably be a fun race. We know we have a great team and it is good to start with a team start”, said Elvira Oeberg.
The Oeberg sisters will partner with Sebastian Samuelsson, the 2018 Olympic gold medalist in the men’s relay, and Martin Ponsiluoma, who was also part of the Swedish team in Pyeongchang.
At the time, Elvira Oeberg was still 18 and watching her sister Hanna Oeberg on television.
“Elvira has made great progress over the past 4 years and I am really impressed. It was special for her to see me compete in Pyeongchang, and now she is here with me. She really wants to perform well and we can support each other”, said her sister Hanna Oeberg.
“The key will be my shooting. I know my cross-country skiing is usually good, so I’m not particularly worried about it. I’ve done my best to prepare well and I’m looking forward to the start”, added Elvira Oeberg.
