Elvira Oeberg claimed her second win since the start of the Biathlon World Cup season after triumphing in the 7.5km sprint at the Slovenian winter center Pokljuka. The Swedish biathlete showed a very high pace over the distance, which she garnished with a perfect shot and deservedly reached victory.
A clean shooting day for Elvira Oeberg and a clear 17-second lead after two shootings made the victory easy for her. She finished in a time of 20:25.2 minutes, beating World Cup leader Julia Simon (France) by 6.9 sec, who was also flawless in her shooting. The trio, again 10 out of 10 at the finish line, was completed by former Grand Crystal Globe winner Dorothea Wierer (Italy), who finished 18.7 sec behind Elvira Oeberg.
Reigning Grand Crystal Globe winner Marte Olsbu Roeiseland made her first start of the season after missing the first three rounds due to suboptimal summer training. The Norwegian finished in 16th place with one fault and a lag of 59.9 sec to the winner.
In the general standings for the World Cup among women, Julia Simon remains in the lead with 546 points, today’s winner Elvira Oeberg is second with 485, and Denise Herrmann-Wick (Germany), who today finished in sixth place, closes the top three with 396. The German remains in first position in the sprint standings with 230 points and a lead of 17 over Elvira Oeberg. Third in the standings in the discipline is the winner from the start in Annecy-le-Grand-Bornand, Linn Persson (Sweden), who has 202 points, and today she finished immediately behind Denise Herrmann-Wick.
The Biathlon World Cup continues tomorrow with the men’s 10 km sprint in Poklyuka. Saturday will be both pursuits, while on Sunday, there will be the first mixed relays of the season.
