Elina Svitolina qualified for the second round of the WTA 500 Internationaux de Strasbourg

The seventh-seeded Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) qualified for the second round of the WTA 500 Internationaux de Strasbourg tournament. The Ukrainian player eliminated Diane Parry (France) after 2-0 (6:3, 6:4) in 1:32 hours of play.

Elina Svitolina registered three breaks in the first set and two in the second set to reach the victory without particular problem. Diane Parry made four aces, but had only 47% success on the first serve, which cost her the match.

In the next round, Elina Svitolina will face Clara Burel (France), who eliminated Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic) after 2-1 (7:5, 0:6, 6:1).

In the other matches of the day, Magda Linette (Poland) defeated Sorana Cirstea (Romania) by 2-0 (7:5, 7:5) and in the second round will play versus sixth-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova (Russia), who eliminated Cristina Bucsa (Spain) after 2-0 (6:0, 7:5). Xinyu Wang (China) also advanced to the second round after a straight-set victory versus Anna Kalinskaya (Russia) by 2-0 (6:4, 7:6) and in the next round will face the fourth-seeded Madison Keys (USA).

Meanwhile, the fifth-seeded Liudmila Samsonova (Russia) defeated Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic) by 2-1 (6:2, 6:7, 6:4), while Yulia Putintseva (Kazakhstan) lost to Katerina Siniakova (Czech Republic) by 0-2 (0:6, 5:7) and Sloane Stephens (USA) lost to Magdalena Frech (Poland) by 0-2 (3:6, 3:6).

In the late matches from the day, Fiona Ferro (France) and Emma Navarro (USA) achieved a straight-set victories versus Erika Andreeva (Russia) and Alize Cornet (France), respctively.
