Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) eliminated Victoria Azarenka (Belarus) and qualified for the quarterfinals of Wimbledon tennis championship for women.
The world’s No 76 Elina Svitolina prevailed over the 19th-seeded Victoria Azarenka after a 2-1 (2:6, 6:4, 7:6) in a match that lasted 2:49 hours.
The Ukrainian led by 3:0 in the third set, but conceded a tie. In the tiebreak, she trailed 4-7 before turning it around to 8-7 and subsequently winning the match.
In the quarterfinals, Elina Svitolina will face the top-seeded Iga Swiatek (Poland).
“After the birth of my daughter, this is the greatest moment of my life. The match was very difficult. When I was 0:2 behind in the second set, I heard the audience and started crying. I really wanted to win today. Today the fans gave me a lot of strength”, said Elina Svitolina after the match. “I was thinking how many people are watching me at home and supporting me. I know how much this win means to them. Every moment they can share happiness is special”, added she.
