Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) defeated the 9th-seeded Daria Kasatkina (Russia) by 2-0 (6:4, 7:6) to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Roland Garros. The Ukrainian tennis player, who recently returned on the court after maternity, recorded 20 winners and total of 6 breaks to eliminate her opponent in almost 2 hours of play.
The first set started strongly for Elina Svitolina who made two breaks to lead by 4:1. Daria Kasatkina returned one of the breaks, but the Ukrainian player won her next two serve games to close the set at 6:4.
The second set offered a lot of turnovers and exchange of breaks. Both exchanged 4 breaks each and Elina Svitolina even missed a match point in the 9th game, but finally went into a tiebreak, which the Ukrainian won by 7-5.
Thus, Elina Svitolina qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament, where will face the the second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus), who defeated Sloane Stephens (USA) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:4).
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (Russia) also qualified for the quarter-finals of the Roland Garros after eliminated Elise Mertens (Belgium) by 2-1 (3:6, 7:6, 6:3), where will face Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic), who defeated Elina Avanesyan (Russia) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:3).
