Elina Svitolina commented on the tension between Russia and Ukraine

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina commented on the tension between Russia and Ukraine, stating that her compatriots should unite in this difficult period for the sake of peace.

“I am proud to be Ukrainian. We will unite in this difficult period for the sake of peace and the future of our country. Glory to Ukraine!”, wrote on social media the tennis player, who is number 15 in the WTA ranking.

Her husband, French tennis player Gael Monfils, also reacted by posting on his Twitter account the flag of Svitolina’s homeland.

Elina Svitolina is not involved in any of the tournaments this week, and last year she lost in the second round of the tournament in Dubai to the Swiss Jil Teichmann.
