Elina Svitolina advanced to the second round of the WTA 1000 Canadian Open

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina advanced to the second round of the WTA 1000 Canadian Open tennis tournament on hard courts after a quick 2-0 (6:0, 6:2) success over Shelby Rogers (USA) in an hour and 10 minutes of play. In the second round Elina Svitolina will face her compatriot Marta Kostyuk, who prevailed at the start over Tatjana Maria (Germany) by 2-0 (6:0, 6:2).

Former world’s number one Victoria Azarenka (Belarus) defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (Russia) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:2) in the first round. In the second round, Victoria Azarenka will face Greet Minnen (Belgium), who defeated
Sloane Stephens (USA) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:2) at the start.

The Czech tennis player Karolina Pliskova is also moving forward. She defeated Nadia Podoroska (Argentina) in her first match by 2-0 (6:4, 7:6).

The Chinese qualifier Wang Yafan prevailed over the American player Sofia Kenin with 2-0 (7:5, 7:6). In the second round, she will face the top-seeded Cori Coco Gauff (USA).

Anna Kalinskaya (Russia), playing under a neutral flag, defeated Louisa Chirico (USA) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:3).

The American tennis player Taylor Townsend also qualified for the second phase, eliminating the 16th-seeded Dayana Yastremska (Ukraine) after withdrawal of the Ukrainian due to injury in the second set after 6:3, 3:1.
