Wimbledon champion and women’s world No 3 Elena Rybakina has pulled out of the warm-up tournament WTA 500 Rothesay International Eastbourne in the UK, sparking concerns about her fitness ahead of this year’s edition of the British Grand Slam, which starts in next week.
The Moscow-born representative of Kazakhstan was also among the favorites at Roland Garros in the French capital Paris earlier this month, but withdrew before her third-round match against Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo due to a viral illness.
The organizers of the WTA 500 Rothesay International Eastbourne tournament did not provide information about the reasons for Elena Rybakina‘s withdrawal. Last week, she lost to Donna Vekic in the second round of the competition WTA 500 German Open in Berlin. Elena Rybakina told British media that she is not yet 100% physically recovered due to the ongoing effects of the disease.
Wimbledon will start on July 3.
