The top-seeded Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) qualified for the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 Adelaide International after defeating Cristina Bucsa (Spain) by 2-0 (6:3, 7:5) in 1:32 hours of play.
The Kazakhstani tennis player started toughly the match at her serve and needed to save two break points before winning the first game. Cristina Bucsa had no problems on her serve winning on 15 and the set continue by each player winning their serve game without anymore break points. Elena Rybakina received her first break point in the 8th game and succeeded to score it, thus taking a lead by 5:3. She served for the set, but the game started terrible for her and gave two break points to Cristina Bucsa at 15-40. However, the Kazakhstani tennis player improved her serve and succeeded to win the next four points and win the game and the set.
Elena Rybakina used the impetus in her play at the beginning of the second set, breaking her opponent and lead by 2:0. The set was running in her favor until 6th game, when Cristina Bucsa returned the break and equalized to 3:3. Elena Rybakina missed a break point at 4:4, but succeeded to score such for 6:5. She served for the match, but again needed to save a breakpoint before closing the set at 7:5.
Thus, the top-seeded Elena Rybakina will face in the quarter-finals Ekaterina Alexandrova, who defeated the 8th-seeded Veronika Kudermetova in an all-Russian clash by 2-0 (6:4, 6:4).
The second-seeded Jessica Pegula (USA) defeated her compatriot Bernarda Pera by 2-1 (4:6, 6:2, 6:3) and in the quarter-finals will face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (Russia), who eliminated Katerina Siniakova (Czech Republic) by 2-1 (2:6, 6:3, 6:2).
Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) also advanced ahead in the tournament after defeating Caroline Garcia (France by 2-1 (6:4, 5:7, 6:4) and will face Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine) for the place in the semis. The Ukrainian tennis player eliminated Taylor Townsend (USA) by 2-1 (6:3, 2:6, 6:4).
Laura Siegemund (Germany) and Daria Kasatkina (Russia) are the other two quarter-finalists after defeating Ana Bogdan (Romania) and Anna Kalinskaya (Russia), respectively.
