Elena Rybakina made a surprise exit in the second round of the women’s tennis tournament WTA 1000 Madrid Open after losing by 1-2 (7:5, 4:6, 2:6) to Anna Kalinskaya (Russia). For the representative of Kazakhstan, it was the first match of the tournament after she got a rest at the start.

Former Roland Garros champion and 11th-seeded Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic) defeated Danka Kovinic (Montenegro) by 2-1 (6:3, 4:6, 6:0). Martina Trevisan (Italy) prevailed with 2-0 (6:2, 7:5) against Eugenie Bouchard (Canada).
Anastasia Potapova, Ekaterina Alexandrova, Daria Kasatkina, Veronika Kudermetova and Bernarda Pera also advanced to the third round.
