Elena Rybakina defeated Elise Mertens and advanced to the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 Miami Open

Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) advanced to the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 Miami Open after defeating Elise Mertens (Belgium) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:3) in 1:46 hours.

The first set started equally with both players winning their serve games quite easily. Elise Mertens recorded the first break in the 7th game but Elena Rybakina succeeded in immediately returning the break and equalizing the score to 4:4. The Kazakhstani tennis player won her next serve game and succeeded to break the serve of her opponent from the third breakpoint and this closed the set at 6:4.

The second set started with a break for Elena Rybakina, who lead by 3:0, which proved to be enough for her to win the set by 6:3.

In the quarter-finals, Elena Rybakina will face Martina Trevisan (Italy), who defeated Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:3).

The 15th-seeded Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic) also advanced to the next round after a victory over Varvara Gracheva (Russia) by 2-0 (7:5, 7:6). In the quarter-finals, she will face Ekaterina Alexandrova (Russia), who advanced after the retirement of Bianca Andreescu (Canada) in the second set.

The 2nd-seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) also advanced to the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 Miami Open after a straight-set victory over Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic).
