The world’s number five Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) broke the record for most aces in a single season in a WTA 1000 event. Last week, Elena Rybakina hit a total of 38 aces at the Beijing tournament, bringing her total to 235 for the entire 2023 season and thus surpassing the records held by Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic) and Serena Williams (USA), Tennis World USA reports.
Karolina Pliskova held the distinction with 234 aces, which she achieved in 2019, and before her, Serena Williams managed 233 aces in a season.
Elena Rybakina performed well in Beijing but did not win the title. The Kazakhstani tennis player reached the semifinals of the tournament without problems, where she struggled and lost to Liudmila Samsonova by 0-2 (6:7, 3:6).
Elena Rybakina is a Russia born Kazakhstani professional tennis player. She has a career-high singles ranking of world No 3 by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), the first Kazakhstani to be ranked in the world’s top 10.
