American Olympic bobsledder and World Champion Elana Meyers Taylor will not be able to be a flag bearer for the US team, as she is still in isolation due to a positive coronavirus test. Her place during the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Olympics on Friday will be taken by skater Brittany Bowe. The other flag bearer of the American delegation is the curler John Shuster.
“Being chosen by my teammates as a flag bearer is the greatest honor of my career. Unfortunately, I will not be able to participate in the ceremony with the other US athletes. But Brittany deserves this opportunity to lead the delegation on my behalf”, said Elana Meyers Taylor.
She wrote on social media that she has been in China since January 27, but on the 29th she tested positive for COVID-19. It makes the disease asymptomatic. The headquarters of the American team are positive about the possibility of Elana Meyers Taylor to participate in the bobsleigh competitions, which start only on February 13.
Elana Meyers Taylor is an American Olympic bobsledder and World Champion who has competed since 2007. Born in Oceanside, California, Meyers Taylor was raised in Douglasville, Georgia and is a graduate of The George Washington University, where she was a member of the softball team. She is the only American to have won three Olympic medals in bobsleigh – two silver and one bronze.
