Elaine Thompson-Herah starts the outdoor season in April

Elaine Thompson-Herah, the world’s fastest woman, will compete in Bermuda next month. Considered one of the greatest sprinters of all time, the five-time Olympic champion will head to the island to compete on April 28.

Elaine Thompson-Herah, 31, is only the second sprinter after Usain Bolt to win the sprint at two consecutive Olympics. She earned gold in the 100m and 200m at the Rio 2016 Olympics and defended both her titles in Tokyo. Winning another gold in the 4×100 relay in Japan means she is only the third person after Usain Bolt and Florence Griffith Joyner to complete a triple Olympic sprint medal streak.

Florence Griffith Joyner is the only woman in history to have run faster than Elaine Thompson-Herah, with the Jamaican’s best time of 10.54 sec, just 0.05 sex over the world record set by the American in Indianapolis in 1988.

This world record is the fifth longest held in athletics, but its legitimacy and that of the four oldest, held by Eastern European athletes competing in the 1980s, has been questioned.

Elaine Thompson-Herah is the biggest name confirmed to compete in Bermuda next month, but she’s not the only Olympic medalist to grace Flora Duffy Stadium. Triple world sprint champion Noah Lyles will also be there.
