The Russian track and field athlete Ekaterina Poistogova-Guliyev lost her 800m silver medal at the London 2012 Olympics due to a violation of anti-doping rules, the Russian Athletics Federation announced.
“The period of the sanction is from March 28, 2024, to March 27, 2026, taking into account the two years of disqualification served by the athlete in accordance with the decision in the case of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). All her results achieved by July 17, 2012, to October 20, 2014, are canceled”, said the statement of the Russian Athletics Federation.
In February 2017, the CAS found the former Russian athlete Mariya Savinova guilty of using prohibited substances based on the data from her biological passport, and her results were nulled, losing the 800m gold medals at the London 2012 Olympics, the 2011 World Championships and European 2010. Therefore, Ekaterina Poistogova-Guliyev, who finished third, became a silver medalist in the 800m.
After a review of the results of the Olympic Games, the silver medal will go to Pamela Jelimo (Kenya) and the bronze – to Alysia Montano (USA).
Since 2021, Poistogova has competed for the Turkish national team under the name Guliyev.
