The Russian tennis player Ekaterina Alexandrova defended her title at the WTA 250 Libema Open in the Netherlands after defeating on the final her compatriot Veronika Kudermetova with 2-1 (4:6, 6:4, 7:6) in match that lasted almost 3 hours. Thus, Ekaterina Alexandrova won her second title in the tournament and her fourth WTA 250 title.
The match started strongly for Veronika Kudermetova, who took a lead at 4:2 and succeeded to close the set at 6:4.
In the second set, Veronika Kudermetova again took a lead with a break, but then lost the initiative and Ekaterina Alexandrova immediately returned the break and even succeeded to make another one to win the set by 6:4 and equalize the score.
Both players were cautious in the third set and played less aggressive, winning their serve games. In the 10th game Ekaterina Alexandrova received a break/match point, but her opponent saved it. In the next game, Veronika Kudermetova have her chance for break, but failed to realize it. In the 12th game, Ekaterina Alexandrova had two more match point, but again lost them and thus the set went into a tiebreak. Ekaterina Alexandrova succeded to make two minibreaks, taking the lead and this proved to be enough to win by 7-3 and triumph with her second consecutive WTA 250 Libema Open title.
Ekaterina Alexandrova has won four WTA 240 singles titles, as well as three WTA 125 titles and seven singles ITF titles. In February 2023, she reached her best singles ranking of world’s No 16.
