Eilish McColgan won the London half-marathon

Scottish middle- and long-distance runner Eilish McColgan won the London half-marathon today in a course record and was overjoyed after the finish.

She won the women’s race in 1:07:35, breaking the previous course record of 1:09:51.

“A dream season. I’m really happy. It was good to be back in London and it was an amazing experience. The audience was great. There were people cheering me on, shouting ‘come on Liz’ along the course, so I made an effort not to laugh”, said Eilish McColgan after her victory.

Eilish McColgan, 31, had a very strong season in which she became the Commonwealth Games champion in Birmingham in the 10,000m and picked up three more medals at the season’s other major events.

She has withdrawn from next month’s London Marathon due to health reasons.

“It’s disappointing. If it was up to me then I’d probably try to do it, but I know it’s my heart. The smart decision is to do everything for April”, commented her on the decision to miss the next month’s London Marathon due to health reasons.

Eilish McColgan is a Scottish middle- and long-distance runner. She is the 2022 Commonwealth Games 10,000m champion with the Games record and 5,000m silver medallist. She is a four-time European Championships medallist, winning silver medals for the 5,000m in 2018 and 10,000m in 2022, bronze in the 5,000m in 2022, and a bronze for the indoor 3,000m in 2017. She holds the European record in the 10 km road race, and British records for the 5,000m, 5km and half marathon. She also holds the European best in the 10 miles on the roads. Eilish McColgan represented Great Britain at the 2012 London 2012 Olympics, Rio 2016 Olympics, and Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
