Eilish McColgan won the Great Scottish Run. The 31-year-old Commonwealth Games champion set a new British record and improved her own European record after finishing first in the women’s race in 30:18.
Racing on home soil at the Great Scottish Run, she finished a memorable year that has included British records at 5km and half-marathon plus Commonwealth 10,000m gold.
“I thought I’d be tired doing this but I actually felt okay. I found the course very tough. That first mile and a half, even up on to the motorway – it’s quite deceiving”, said Eilish McColgan. “Every bridge does get you. But it helped having a couple of lads to chase down. The first half I was on my own. The second half I could see people and was trying to chase them and then I had a little bit of a sprint finish at the end. But I got excited when I saw the clock. It was a nice way to round out the season”, added she.
Eilish McColgan is a Scottish middle- and long-distance runner. She is the 2022 Commonwealth Games 10,000m champion with the Games record, and 5000m silver medallist. She holds the European record in the 10 km road race, and British records for the 5000m, 5 km and half marathon. She also holds the European best in the 10 miles on the roads.
