Eilish McColgan won the Berlin Half Marathon. The Scottish athlete finished in 65:43 min and was just 3 sec off the British record. McColgan’s previous best in the event was 66:26 min.
Britain’s record in the half marathon is held by Paula Radcliffe, who clocked 65:40 min.
Eilish McColgan’s strong result comes just a month after the 10,000m best of 30:00.86 min set in California, where 21-year-old Paula Radcliffe’s record was improved.
With her achievement from Berlin today, 32-year-old Eilish McColgan now occupies fourth place in the all-time European ranking in the half marathon.
Eilish McColgan is a Scottish middle- and long-distance runner. She is the 2022 Commonwealth Games 10,000m champion with the Games record and a 5,000m silver medallist. Eilish McColgan is a four-time European Championships medallist, winning silver medals for the 5,000m in 2018 and 10,000m in 2022, bronze in the 5,000m in 2022, and a bronze for the indoor 3,000m in 2017. She is the European record holder for the 10km road race, and the British record holder for the 5,000m, 10,000m, 5km and half marathon. She also holds the European best in the 10 miles on the roads.
McColgan represented Great Britain at the London 2012, Rio 2016, and Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She represented Scotland at Commonwealth Games in 2014 in Glasgow, and in 2018 in Gold Coast in addition to the 2022 Games in Birmingham.
