Scottish long-distance runner Eilish McColgan made her long-awaited return to Paris this weekend, then set her sights on returning to the French capital again for this summer’s Olympics.
The Commonwealth Games gold medalist spent a year out with a knee injury but is on the road to recovery. The 33-year-old athlete returned to competition at the ASICS Festival of Running on Friday, competing in the 10km. However, she is determined to be at a much higher level in a few months and we will see her in the familiar light of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
“This is what I train for. That’s certainly what I’d like to achieve for the year – that’s goal A. To be at my fourth Olympics would be a huge achievement”, said Eilish McColgan. “I have my qualifying times, but I have to show that I’m fit and in shape, so I’m heading for altitude”, added the Scottish long-distance runner.
Eilish McColgan is the 2022 Commonwealth Games 10,000m champion with the Games record, and 5,000m silver medalist. She is a four-time European Championships medalist, winning silver medals for the 5,000m in 2018 and 10,000m in 2022, bronze in the 5,000m in 2022, and bronze for the indoor 3,000m in 2017. She is the European record holder for the 10km road race, and the British record holder for the 5,000m, 10,000m, 5km, and half marathon. She also holds the European best in the 10 miles on the roads.
Eilish McColgan represented Great Britain at the London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
