Commonwealth Games champion Eilish McColgan believes she can “snatch out a bronze medal” at the Paris 2024 Olympics next year.
But the Scottish athlete accepts it is far more likely she will be in the 10,000m on the track as the Games come too soon for her marathon debut.
The 33-year-old runner feels she is likely to compete in her fourth Olympics in the 10,000m.
“Timelines will be tight for the marathon”, said Eilish McColgan. “I would have to qualify by April, which would mean that the London Marathon would be the last attempt to qualify for Paris. This is still an option. It’s not something I’m completely writing off, but I think realistically, I’ve already got time for the 10,000m qualifiers, so that gives me time until the end of June”, added she.
Eilish McColgan, who pulled out of her debut in this year’s London Marathon a week before the event, had hoped to compete over 26 miles in Paris but has yet to run anywhere over the distance due to hamstring and knee problems that cut short her 2023 season.
