Joy Beune is a Dutch speed skater who is specialized in middle distances. She won the silver at the 2019 World Single Distances Championships in Inzell in the Team pursuit. She is a multiple champion in speed skating Allround of the Netherlands.
Joy Beune was born on April 22, 1999, in Borne, Netherlands. She started in athletics but later turned to speed skating. Joy Beune won the silver medal at the 2017 World Junior Speed Skating Championships in Warsaw. The following year, at the 2018 World Junior Speed Skating Championships in Utah, she became the junior world champion. She won the 1,000m, 1,500m, and 3,000m events and set world junior records at these distances.
In 2018/2019, Joy Beune won the golds in Dutch Championships Allround at 500m and 1,500m, as well as bronze medals at 3,000m and 5,000m. She improved her personal best on the 5,000m – in the second race of her career at this distance – by 40.06 sec to 6:58.94 min. She then skated during the World Cup final in Salt Lake City in 1,500m in 1:52.78 min. During the season she won the silver at the 2019 World Single Distances Championships in Inzell in the Team pursuit.
In 2019/2020, Joy Beune won the bronze in Dutch Championships Allround at 500m and 1,500m, as well as the bronze in Dutch Championships Single Distances at 1,500m. During the season she took part in the European Championships Single Distances in Heerenveen and the World Championships Single Distances in Salt Lake, finishing 7th and 10th at 1,500m, respectively.
Joy Beune won the European bronze in 2020/2021, finishing third in the Allround Championships in Heerenveen at the 1,500m.
In 2021/2022, she again won the golds in Dutch Championships Allround at 1,500m and 3,000m and the silver at 5,000m.
Joy Beune is one of the most talented speed skaters in Europe and definitely will show her best results in the coming seasons.
