Nadine Broersen is a Dutch track and field athlete, who specializes in the combined events heptathlon and pentathlon, as well as the high jump. She holds the World Indoor pentathlon and the European Cup Combined Events titles but also is the European Championships silver medalist. Furthermore, Nadine Broersen is the Dutch record holder in pentathlon.
Born on April 29, 1990, in Hoorn, the Netherlands, Nadine Broersen showed exceptional skills in the three events – 100m hurdles, high jump, and javelin throw – from a young age. As a result, she was recruited for the Dutch national combined events squad in 2009 and subsequently focused on competing in combined events – heptathlon and pentathlon.
Nadine Broersen made her professional debut in 2007 at the Duffel Memorial Vertommen-Cuddy, finishing 6th in the javelin throw event. In the following season, she achieved 5th place at the Neerpelt Nacht van de Euregio and the Amsterdam Dutch Championships in the same event. She repeated her participation in the Amsterdam Dutch Championships the next season, finishing 7th in the javelin throw event.
In 2009, Nadine Broersen shifted her focus to combined events and secured 5th place at the Novi Sad European Junior Championships in the heptathlon and 15th place at the Zaragoza International CE Indoor Match in the pentathlon. During this time, she also clinched the javelin throw gold and long jump silver at the Zwolle Dutch Club Championships.
The year 2010 marked a significant milestone for Nadine Broersen as she claimed her first national medal in combined events, earning the pentathlon silver at the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Combined Events Championships. Additionally, she performed admirably in the heptathlon, achieving 5th place at the Hengelo European Cup Combined Events 1st League and 8th place at the Desenzano del Garda Multistars. Notably, she also secured her first national gold at the Amsterdam Dutch Championships in the high jump and finished 4th in the high jump event at the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Championships. In 2011, Nadine Broersen kept her form and showed impressive form and skills, notably enhancing her performance in hurdles, high jump, and combined events. She secured the pentathlon gold at the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Combined Events Championships and achieved a 9th place finish in the heptathlon at the Ostrava European U23 Championships, as well as a 4th place finish at the prestigious Desenzano del Garda Multistars. Moving on to 2012, Nadine Broersen made her Olympic Games debut in the heptathlon at the London 2012 Olympics, finishing 11th. Additionally, she secured the pentathlon silver at the Praha International Combined Events Meeting. Her achievements extended to the javelin throw, where she claimed the silver at the Amsterdam Dutch Championships and gold medals at the Zwolle Dutch Club Championships and the Hilversum Dutch Club Championships. She continued her high jump dominance with wins at the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Championships and Eindhoven Kamerbeek Games. Additionally, she claimed the heptathlon silver at the Zurich European Championships. In combined events, she emerged triumphant, winning gold medals at the Torun European Combined Events Team Championships Super League in the heptathlon and Sheffield British Athletics Combined Events Match in the pentathlon. Notably, she also attained the long jump bronze at both the Liege Meeting International de la province de Liege and Leiden Gouden Spike. The following year, in 2015, Nadine Broersen narrowly missed out on a medal at the Beijing IAAF World Championships in the heptathlon, finishing in 4th place. However, she claimed bronze at the Gotzis Hypo-Meeting in the same event. While competing at the Praha European Indoor Championships in the pentathlon, she unfortunately did not achieve the desired success. Nevertheless, she celebrated victories at the Amsterdam Dutch Championships, earning gold in the long jump and silver in the javelin throw. Furthermore, at the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Championships, she earned silver in the high jump.
In 2016, Nadine Broersen marked her second Olympic appearance, representing the Dutch combined events team at the Rio 2016 Olympics, and finishing in 13th place in the heptathlon. Despite not achieving significant success at the Olympics, she demonstrated her prowess by claiming gold at the Golden Label’s Talence Decastar in the same event during the season. Additionally, she secured the silver at the Amsterdam Dutch Championships in the javelin throw.
In 2017, Nadine Broersen showed her athletic prowess by clinching the gold at the Monzon European Combined Events Team Championships 1st League in the heptathlon. Although she faced stiff competition at the London IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Talence Decastar, and Gotzis Hypo-Meeting, her determination remained unwavering. In the pentathlon, she demonstrated her skill at the Beograd European Indoor Championships and the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Combined Events Championships. Nadine’s exceptional abilities shone through as she secured the javelin throw and long jump silver medals and the 100m hurdles bronze at the Utrecht Dutch Championships. Additionally, she achieved the high jump silver at the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Championships.
During 2018, Nadine Broersen focused on individual disciplines, marking a significant shift from combined events. Her standout performance included clinching the javelin throw gold at the Utrecht Dutch Championships and securing gold at the Grootebroek Westfries Atletiek Gala, along with a silver at the Zoetermeer Dutch Club Championships in the same event. Notably, she also impressed with a silver in the shot put at the Hilversum Arena Games.
In 2019, Nadine Broersen exhibited her prowess once again by attaining the heptathlon bronze at the Stadtwerke Ratingen Mehrkampf-Meeting. She also participated at the Doha IAAF World Championships in Athletics, securing the high jump gold at the High Jump Meeting in Amiens and the javelin throw silver at the Gouden Spike in Leiden, notwithstanding not clinching a medal.
Nadine Broersen continue dominating the track and field in the Netherlands in 2020, winning the gold at the Utrecht Dutch Indoor Championships, despite finishing 5th in the long jump and shot put. At the Utrecht Dutch Championships, she once again displayed her resilience, claiming the 5th position in the long jump.
In 2021, Nadine Broersen participated in her third Olympics, competing in the heptathlon event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Regrettably, she did not finish the event due to setbacks in her key events, the javelin throw, and long jump. However, she secured the gold at the Dutch Indoor Combined Events Championships in the pentathlon and achieved the 10th position at the Torun European Athletics Indoor Championships in the same event. Additionally, in individual events, she clinched the javelin throw silver at the Breda Dutch Championships.
Following a hiatus in 2022 due to maternity, Nadine Broersen made a strong comeback in 2023, capturing the combined events national title with a gold at the Breda Dutch Championships in the heptathlon. During the season, she claimed the long jump gold at the T-Meeting in Tilburg, the high jump silver at the Gouden Spike in Leiden, and the shot put silver at the Harry Schulting Games in Vught.
Nadine Broersen continue in competitive athletics in 2024, finishing 5th at the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Championships in the long jump and 9th at the Hengelo Dutch Championships in the javelin throw.
