Eveline Saalberg is a Dutch track and field athlete who specializes in the 400m. She won four major medals as part of the Dutch 4x400m relays, either women’s or mixed, being world champion, world silver medalist, and European champion.
Eveline Saalberg was born on July 30, 1998, in Arnhem, Netherlands. She started in athletics at an early age and quickly showed her great talent in sports. She became the 20134 Apeldoorn Dutch U18 Indoor Championships silver medalist and the 2017 Apeldoorn Dutch University Indoor Championships gold medalist.
Eveline Saalberg started her competitive career already in 2012, winning the gold at the Gent U16 Indoor Meeting in 60m. During the next season, she competed at the Eindhoven Dutch U18 Championships in 100m and 200m but remained out of the finals.
In 2014, Eveline Saalberg won the silver at the Apeldoorn Dutch U18 Indoor Championships and the gold at the Apeldoorn U18 Meeting in 400m, while in 2015, she grabbed the bronze at the Dortmund Hallensportfest. In 2017, she debuted at the senior national championship, competing at the Utrecht Dutch Championships in 200m, but did not reach the finals. However, during the season she won the bronze at the Vught Dutch U20/U18 Championships in 200m, as well as the gold medals at the Apeldoorn Dutch University Indoor Championships in 200m and 400m.
In 2018, Eveline Saalberg won the gold at some local events in 400m and 200m, but failed to earn an honor from the Utrecht Dutch Championships. However, in 2019, she grabbed her first major honor, winning the gold at the Dutch Championships in 400m hurdles. She also earned the gold at the T-Meeting in Tilburg and NSK Teams 2019 in Nijmegen in 400m but also finished 5th at the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Championships in 200m.
Eveline Saalberg won the bronze at the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Championships and the silver at the Utrecht Dutch Championships in 400m. She also earned the bronze at the Brussels Grand Prix and the Gouden Spike in Lieden in the same event.
In 2021, Eveline Saalberg competed at the World Athletics Relays in Chorzow, Poland, but remained 8th in the final. Individually, during the season, she earned the gold at the Resisprint in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, and the silver at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme in 400m.
In 2022, Eveline Saalberg won the silver at the Beograd World Athletics Indoor Championships and the gold at the Munich European Athletics Championships in the 4x400m relay. During the season she also grabbed the bronze at the Meeting Metz Moselle Athlelor and the silver at the CITIUS Meeting in 400m. She also competed at the FBK Games, Weltklasse, and Gala dei Castelli, but remained out of the medals zone.
Eveline Saalberg achieved her biggest success in 2023, winning the gold at the Budapest World Athletics Championships in the 4x400m relay. She also grabbed the gold at the Istanbul European Athletics Indoor Championships in the same discipline. Individually, she earned the 400m silver at the Meeting Metz Moselle Athlelor, as well as the 400m gold at the Breda Dutch Championships, her first national title.
