For the fifth time in her Biathlon World Cup career, Dorothea Wierer (Italy) recorded a victory in Antholz-Anterselva after triumphing in today’s 7.5km sprint. The Italian’s previous successes in South Tyrol date back to 2022 (mass start), 2020 (individual and pursuit) and 2019 (pursuit).
Dorothea Wierer cruised to victory today with a perfect shot but had to tremble to the last as France’s Chloe Chevalier, who started in number 60, also took down all her targets and was moving better in the intermediate controls until the very end. However, Dorothea Wierer’s final kilometer proved too strong for Chloe Chevalier, who ended up finishing 2.8 sec behind the Italian.
Completing the podium in today’s competition was Sweden’s Elvira Oeberg, who also went 10 out of 10 in her shooting, but was slower on the course and finished 8.7 sec behind the winner. One step away from the podium was the reigning winner of the big crystal globe, Marte Olsbu Roiseland (Norway), who, with one mistake in shooting, finished 14.7 sec ahead of Dorothea Wierer. The former cross-country skier Anamarija Lampic (Slovenia) closed the top five, who, with one miss in each of her two shots, was only 18.4 sec behind the first place.
In the general standings for the World Cup, Julia Simon (France), who today finished in ninth place with two errors from the right, remains in the lead with 788 points. Second with 675 points is Elvira Oeberg, and today’s winner Dorothea Wierer closes the top 3 with an asset of 567 points.
In the sprint discipline, Denise Herrmann-Wick, who finished sixth today, took first place. The German has an asset of 270 points and leads with 7 points of Elvira Oeberg, and third with a passive of 24 points is Dorothea Wierer again.
