Dominican volleyball babe Brenda Castillo

Brenda Castillo is a volleyball player from the Dominican Republic, who plays as a libero. She was a member of the Dominican Republic national team that won fifth place in the London 2012 Olympics, while she was named the tournament’s Best Libero. She was awarded the MVP at the NORCECA Championships 2023, Best Digger at the Volleyball Nations League 2021, Best Libero and Best Digger at the FIVB World Cup 2015, but also is a two-time Women Champions League silver medalist, CEV Cup winner, and Women Club World Championship silver medalist.

Brenda Castillo was born on June 5, 1992, in Haina, San Cristobal, Dominican Republic. She started in volleyball at the age of ten and showed great skills and talent in the sport. She played as a junior with the local volleyball club San Cristobal, where she started her career, as well as youth national volleyball teams.

Brenda Castillo started playing for the Dominican Republic senior volleyball team in 2007, winning the bronze at the Pan American Cup and NORCECA Championships, finished 5th at the Pan American Games, and 9th at the FIVB World Cup. In season 2007/2008, she won the silver medal at the Dominican Republic League with San Cristobal but also won the gold at the Pan American Cup 2008 with the Dominican Republic women’s volleyball team. Moreover, the national team won the silver at the NORCECA Championship U20 and Final Four Cup 2008, where she was awarded MVP.

In 2009, Brenda Castillo and the national team continue winning awards and being one of the top teams in Central America and the world. They won the silver at the Pan American Cup and World Championships U20, where she was awarded MVP, as well as the title at the NORCECA Championships and the bronze at the Final Four Cup and FIVB Grand Champions Cup. She was awarded the Best libero, digger, and receiver at the NORCECA Championships and Final Four Cup. Meanwhile, during the season she signed with another local volleyball club – Mirador VC.

Brenda Castillo continued being one of the top volleyball players in the country in 2010, winning with the national team the Pan American Cup and Central American and Caribbean Games, but also finishing second at the NORCECA Championship U20 and 17th at the World Championships. She played at the Club World Championship with her current club, but at the end of the season, she signed with the Puerto Rican team Criollas de Caguas, winning the national league title in 2010/2011.

In season 2011/2012, Brenda Castillo made another great performance with the Dominican national teams, winning the Pan-American Cup U23 and finishing 5th at the London 2012 Olympics, where she was named the Best Libero and Best Digger. Meanwhile, she signed with the Azerbaijani volleyball team Rabita Baku. In the 2012/2013 season, she won the Azerbaijan Superleague and earned silver at the Champions League and the Club World Championship with her new club. She also won the silver with the under-23 national team at the World Championships U23 2013, while with the senior national team, she won the bronze at the Montreux Volley Masters and the silver at the NORCECA Championships.

In the next season, Brenda Castillo won again the gold at the Azerbaijan Superleague and the bronze at the Champions League playing for Rabita Baku, as well as the Pan American Cup and Central American and Caribbean Games, where she was awarded MVP, with the national team. Meanwhile, at the World Championships 2014 the Dominican national volleyball team finished 5th.

In the 2014/2015 season, Brenda Castillo and Rabita Baku were unstoppable at the Azerbaijan Superleague winning it for the third consecutive year, but they also earned the bronze at the CEV Cup. With the national team, she won the gold at the NORCECA Champions Cup and Final Four Cup, the silver at the Pan American Cup and NORCECA Championships, and the bronze at the Pan American Games.

In 2015, Brenda Castillo signed with another Azerbaijani volleyball club – Lokomotiv Baku. In season 2015/2016, the team finished third in the Azerbaijan Superleague and 8th in the Champions League. With the national team, she won the title at the Pan American Cup.

Brenda Castillo moved to Brazil in 2016, to sign with the Genter/Bauru. The team won the Copa Sao Paulo and finished third at the Paulista Championship and 5th at the Brazilian Superliga and Brazilian Cup. With the Dominican Republic national volleyball team, she won the gold at the NORCECA Championships and the silver at the Pan American Cup.

In 2017, Brenda Castillo returned to the Dominican Republic and signed with the local Cristo Rey Volleyball Club, where stayed for two seasons, winning silver in 217/018 season and bronze in the 2018/2019 season. Meanwhile, with the national team she won the gold at the Central American and Caribbean Games 2018 and Pan American Games 2019, as well as the silver at the Pan American Cup 2018.

Brenda Castillo made another transfer to Brazil in 2020, signing with Sesi Volei Bauru. She stayed only one season in the team and won the bronze at the Brazilian Cup and the silver at the Paulista Championship. She also played for the national team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where the Dominican Republic finished 8th.

In 2021, Brenda Castillo moved to Europe and signed with the Italian club Savino Del Bene Scandicci. During the two seasons in the Italian club, she won the bronze at the Italian Serie A1 2022/2023, as well as the gold at the Challenge Cup 2021/2022 and CEV Cup 2022/2023. With the national team she won the title at the Pan American Cup 2022, NORCECA Pan American Cup Final Six 2022, Central American and Caribbean Games 2023, NORCECA Championships 2023, and Pan American Games 2023, but also finished 11th at the World Championships 2022.

In 2023, Brenda Castillo signed with another Italian club – Allianz Vero Volley Milano. She won the silver at the Champions League and Italian Serie A1 in season 2023/2024. She was awarded the Best receiver in the Italian Cup and will lead the national women’s volleyball team at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
