The winner of 18 gold medals from the World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, Dina Averina, admitted that she may no longer have the opportunity to participate in world championships, but continues to hope for the best.
“In 2019 in Baku, someone told me that this is my last World Championship because in an Olympic year there are no championships on the planet. And then I replied that it is not yet a fact that this is my last World Championship. And so it is it happened in the end. Because of the pandemic, there was a postponement and the World Championships were held in the same year as the Olympics”, said Dina Averina. “And I am very glad that my words came true. Now I cannot say with confidence that I will still participate in the World Championships. But I always hope for the best”, added the gymnast.
At the moment, female athletes from Russia cannot participate in tournaments under the auspices of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) because of the military operation in Ukraine.
At the 2021 World Championships held at the end of October in Kitakyushu (Japan), Dina Averina won five gold medals (team, individual all-around, ball, hoop, and club finals) and one silver (on ribbon).
Sisters Dina and Arina Averina debuted at the World Championships in 2017 in Pesaro (Italy).
Russia did not participate in the World Championship in Sofia in September because of the FIG sanction.
