The British sprinter Dina Asher-Smith won the European women’s 100m title for the second time in her career. The 28-year-old Dina Asher-Smith reached the gold medal at the 2024 Roma European Athletics Championships with a time of 10.99 sec and for the second time since 2018 she reached the European top in this discipline.

“The gun went, I probably could have reacted a little bit better. I was like oopsie! Ultimately I just focused on executing the second half of my race”, said Dina Asher-Smith after the victory. “I know that my second half right now is really, really quick and that we’ve worked really hard on that. I would have loved to have married that perhaps with the first half of the race, but you know, it is what it is. It’s done now”, added she.

Second with 11.03 sec was Ewa Swoboda (Poland) after a photo finish, and third with the same time was Zaynab Dosso (Italy). Patrizia van der Weken (Luxembourg) was fourth just one hundredth behind Ewa Swoboda and Zaynab Dosso.

Geraldina “Dina” Rachel Asher-Smith is the fastest British woman on record, she won a gold medal in the 200m, silver in the 100m and another silver in the 4x100m relay at the 2019 World Championships, breaking her own British records with further records which still stand. Aged 24, Dina Asher-Smith was the first Briton to win three medals at a World Championships, and the first British woman to win a World title in a sprint event. She earned a bronze in the 200m at the 2022 World Championships. As part of 4x100m relay teams, she won medals at the Rio 2016 Olympics and Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and also at the 2013, 2017 World Championships and 2019 World Championships.
