Germany’s Denise Herrmann wins the 15km Women’s individual in the biathlon competition at the Beijing 2022 Olympics.
The former cross-country skier showed her traditional high speed on the track, and this time she was garnished with almost perfect shooting. She shot down 19 of 20 targets, as did silver medalist Anais Chevalier-Bouchet of France. In the final, the difference between the two was 9.4 seconds in favor of Denise Herrmann, who completed the track in 44:12.7 minutes.
Norwegian Marte Olsbu Roøiseland won the bronze medal today, finishing 15.3 seconds behind Denise Herrmann, although she missed one more pass. Only 1.3 behind the Norwegian at the foot of the medals was the second German Vanessa Voigt, who, like her compatriot Denise Herrmann, shot down 19 targets.
Dzinara Alimbekava (Belarus) and last year’s world champion Marketa Davidova finished fifth and sixth today, with one penalty minute each. More painful was this defeat for the Czech, who shot down her first 19 targets, but failed on the 20th. In the final, her delay was 31.9 seconds.
For the 33-year-old Denise Herrmann, this is the second Olympic medal after bronze in the women’s 4x5km relay in Sochi 2014, but in a different discipline – cross-country skiing.
“I am incredibly happy and proud. I felt good and I knew I could. You have to stay cool at the shooting range”, said Denise Herrmann.
