Darja Varfolomeev won the Clubs’ World Rhythmic Gymnastics title

Germany’s Darja Varfolomeev won the Clubs’ World Rhythmic Gymnastics title with 33.550 points. She made a stellar performance and stopped the hegemony of the Italian Sofia Raffaeli at the championship. The win came one day after she became her nation’s first rhythmic gymnastics world medallist.

“I am overwhelmed with emotions right now. The main thing is that we will not stop and we will continue working the way we do”, said Darja Varfolomeev after the completion. “I was dreaming maybe of coming second or third. But first? I had such a dream but couldn’t imagine it’s possible to become world champion. Now the focus is all-around [final], and qualification for the Olympics would be another dream come true”, added she.

Second in the Clubs final was the Bulgarian gymnast Stiliana Nikolova with 32.600 points, while the bronze went to Italian Sofia Raffaeli.

Darja Varfolomeev is a German rhythmic gymnast. She is the first German rhythmic gymnast to win a medal in an individual apparatus final at World Championships since 1977, making her the first German rhythmic gymnast to medal at the World Championships after the reunification of Germany.
