The 11th-seeded Daria Kasatkina was defeated at the start of the WTA 1000 Canadian Open. The Russian tennis player, who won the WTA 500 Silicon Valley Classics in San Jose, lost in the first round of the Masters in Toronto to Bianca Andreescu with 0-2 (6:7, 4:6) in a match that lasted 2 hours and a half.
In the first set, both players had problems winning their serve and the match started with 5 consecutive breaks. Finally, the set went into a tiebreak, which was won by the Canadian player by 5-7.
The second set also had 7 breaks in total and the tired Daria Kasatkina decreased the percentage of the 1st serve point, which finally brought the win to Bianca Andreescu with 4:6 after 65 minutes of play.
Thus, Bianca Andreescu will qualify for the second round of the WTA 1000 Canadian Open, where will face Alize Cornet.
The Olympic champion and 12th-seeded Belinda Bencic also qualified for the second round after 2-0 (6:4, 6:2) victory versus Tereza Martincova. In the second round she will play versus Serena Williams.
