Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina was eliminated at the start of the WTA 500 Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose, USA. The Russian-born representative of Kazakhstan lost by 1-2 (6:1, 2:6, 0:6) from Russian Daria Kasatkina.

The 23-year-old Elena Rybakina started the match very well and easily won the first set. However, in the second, the 7th-seeded Daria Kasatkina began to play excellently on the return, and although her rival continued to maintain a very high level of the first serve, this did not hinder the Russian at all.

Daria Kasatkina tied the score after 6:2, and in the third set, she had even greater superiority.

In the second round, Daria Kasatkina will play versus the American Taylor Townsend.

Karolina Pliskova, the former leader in the world rankings, started with a difficult victory at the WTA 500 Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose, USA. The Czech beat the British Katie Boulter by 2-1 (1:6, 7:6, 6:3) in 2 hours and 15 minutes of play.

Karolina Pliskova, who lost to Katie Boulter at Eastbourne and Wimbledon this summer, was on the verge of a third consecutive loss to the Briton as she trailed a set and 4:5 points in the tiebreak of the second, but showed her will and pulled through to draw the second part after 7:5 points.

In the third set, the 8th-seeded Czech tennis player managed to win Katie Boulter’s serve three times and eventually triumph after 6:3.

Americans Amanda Anisimova, Madison Keys, and Elizabeth Mandlik, who started from the qualifiers, continue to the next stage of the tournament.

The prize pool of the tournament in San Jose is 758,000 USD.
