Danielle Collins won the title of the women’s tennis tournament WTA 1000 Miami Open

Danielle Collins (USA) won the title of the women’s tennis tournament WTA 1000 Miami Open with a prize pool of 8,770,480 million USD. In the final, the American tennis player, who will retire at the end of the season, defeated the fourth-seeded Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) by 2-0 (7:5, 6:3) in just over two hours of play. Thus, she won her first WTA 1000 trophy and the third overall in her career.

Danielle Collins made a crucial break in the 12th game on his way to a first-set victory. At the beginning of the second set, the two exchanged a break, after which the American took her rival’s serve in the eighth game and closed the match with her fourth match point in the next.

Danielle Collins had not won a match against a Top-5 player since defeating then-No 2 Paula Badosa (Spain) in San Diego in October 2022. She became the first American to take the title in Miami since Sloane Stephens in 2018.

Danielle Collins, a 2022 Australian Open finalist and former world No 7, is currently WTA ranked No 53 and is the lowest-ranked woman to win the trophy in Miami. The previous one was Kim Clijsters, who was ranked No 38 when she won the title in 2005.

Danielle Collins is expected to climb to WTA No 22 in Monday’s updated rankings.
