Danielle Collins (USA) reached her first WTA 1000 tournament final after defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova (Russia) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:2) in the semi-finals in Miami.
Danielle Collins, who made the final of the 2022 Australian Open but is currently ranked No 53 in the world, needed just 75 minutes to close out the match and bring the Hard Rock Football Stadium crowd to its feet.
In Saturday’s final, Danielle Collins will play with the 4th-seeded Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan), who earlier in the day eliminated three-time champion Victoria Azarenka (Belarus) in the other semifinal.
“It feels like a very big achievement to qualify for the final. I think both she and I wanted to qualify for this final. Other than the Grand Slams, these are the biggest events of the year. I can’t express how happy I am I’m excited to be in the finals of a tournament like this in my home state and be able to play in front of my family, my friends and my dog”, said Danielle Collins, who has already announced that this season will be the last of her professional career as wants to start a family of his own.
The American turned the first set after losing with a break for 1:2, but managed to bring things to 5:2 in her favor. In the second set she had even fewer problems and after two more breaks, this time unanswered, she reached the final victory.
