Danielle Collins eliminated Elina Svitolina to qualify for the second round of the WTA 1000 Canadian Open

The American qualifier Danielle Collins eliminated the former world’s No 3 Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) in the start of the WTA 1000 Canadian Open by 2-0 (6:2, 6:2) in 1:12 hours.

The American college champion did not gave any chance to Elina Svitolina and totally overplayed her, recording two breaks in each set, saving the only two breakpoints of her opponent.

In the second round, Danielle Collins will face the 8th-seeded Maria Sakkari (Greece).

In the other match of the day, the American player Alycia Parks eliminated her compatriot Lauren Davis by 2-1 (7:5, 4:6, 6:2), while 15th-seeded Liudmila Samsonova (Russia) defeated Katerina Siniakova (Czech republic) by 2-1 (4:6, 6:2, 6:3) and Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark) won her opening match versus Kimberly Birrell (Australia) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:2).

The 10th-seeded Daria Kasatkina (Russia) also advanced to the second round of the tournament after eliminating Elise Mertens (Belgium) at the start by 2-0 (6:4, 6:2), as well as Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic), who eliminated Anastasia Potapova (Russia) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:2).

Yulia Putintseva (Kazakhstan) defeated Bernarda Pera (USA) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:4) and qualified for the second round and will face 4th-seeded Jessica Pegula (USA).
