Danielle Collins defeated Olivia Gadecki in straight sets at the start of the WTA 250 ATX Open in Austin

The third-seeded Danielle Collins (USA) defeated Olivia Gadecki (Australia) in straight sets at the start of the WTA 250 ATX Open in Austin, Texas. The American tennis player reached a 2-0 (7:5, 6:3) victory in 1:37 hours of play.

Danielle Collins started the first set hesitantly the match, losing her first serve game, but after that concentrated and returned to her style of play, breaking for 2:2 and again for 7:5 to close the set. In the second set, she started more confidently, taking a lead by 3:0, but Olivia Gadecki returned the break and equalized to 3:3. However, another late break, brought the victory to the American tennis star.

In the second round of the tournament, Danielle Collins will face her compatriot Katie Volynets, who defeated Renata Zarazua (Mexico) by 2-0 (6:4, 7:6).

The top-seeded Anhelina Kalinina (Ukraine) and the second-seeded Sloane Stephens (USA) also advanced in the tournament after straight-set victories. Anhelina Kalinina defeated Sara Bejlek (Czech Republic) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:2) and in the second round will face Camila Osorio (Colombia), who eliminated Alize Cornet (France) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:2). Sloane Stephens won her opening match versus Tereza Martincova by 2-0 (6:4, 6:0) and will face Anastasija Sevastova (Latvia), who defeated Julia Riera (Argentina) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:3).

The 6th-seeded Xiyu Wang (China) won her match versus Nadia Podoroska (Argentina) by 2-0 (7:5, 6:4), while Sachia Vickery (USA) defeated Rebecca Marino (Canada) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:4) and Taylor Townsend (USA) eliminated Fernanda Contreras Gomez (Mexico) after 2-1 (3:6, 6:2, 6:3).

Meanwhile, the 7th-seeded Peyton Stearns (USA) was knocked out of the tournament, losing to Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (Slovakia) by 1-2 (2:6, 6:4, 5:7).

In the other matches of the first round of the tournament with a prize money 267,082 USD, Darja Semenistaja (Latvia) defeated Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva (Andorra) by 2-1 (6:7, 6:2, 6:4), Kamilla Rakhimova (Russia) eliminated Yanina Wickmayer (Belgium) by 2-1 (6:3, 6:7, 7:6) and Emiliana Arango (Colombia) won her opening match versus Alycia Parks (USA) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:3).
