The match started better for the Spaniard, who broke her opponent already in the second game. However, Katerina Siniakova quickly returned the break and won six games in a row to win the first set.
The second set was for Garbine Muguruza, peremptory won by 6:0.
The drama came in the third set when both players exchanged breaks and the result was moving equally. However, at the end of the match, Katerina Siniakova had more power and made two breaks to win the set with 6;3 and the match with 2-1.
In other second-round matches, two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, 7th-seeded, advanced with a 2-0 (6;4, 6:4) victory over France’s Fiona Ferro. Kvitova won the Canadian title in 2012 but hasn’t made it past the third round since.
