Cori Coco Gauff (USA) and Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic) qualified for the final of the WTA 1000 Western & Southern Open tennis tournament in Cincinnati after three-set battles.
Cori Coco Gauff (USA) qualified for the finals after defeating the top-seeded Iga Swiatek (Poland) by 2-1 (7:6, 3:6, 6:4) in almost three hours of play.
The match started equally with both players winning heir serve games, but in the 6th games of the first set, the Polish tennis player took a lead after breaking her opponent. However, Cori Coco Gauff returned the break immediately. Both exchanged one breaks in the next two games. In the 12th game of the set, Iga Swiatek received two set points at serve of her opponent with 15-40, but Cori Coco Gauff saved both and thus the set entered into a tiebreak, in which the American won convincingly by 7-2.
The second set was in favor of Iga Swiatek, who broke already in the third game of the set and took a lead. She did not give any breakpoint to her opponent in the next games and after another break in the 9th game, closed the set by 6:3.
The third decisive set started equally with both players winning their serve games. Cori Coco Gauff was the first to reach the break, which proved to be enough for winning the set by 6:4 and the match.
In the final, Cori Coco Gauff will face Karolina Muchova (Czech republic), who had a three-set battle with the 2nd-seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus), but finally won by 2-1 (6:7, 6:3, 6:2) in 2:39 hours of play.
