The American tennis talent Cori “Coco” Gauff reached her maiden quarter-final of the US Open after defeating by 2-0 (7:5, 7:5) the Chinese Shuai Zhang in a match that lasted almost 2 hours.

Cori “Coco” Gauff made 5 aces and has a 72% first serve percentage. She made 33 winners and 2 unforced errors against 26 winners and 29 unforced errors for Shuai Zhang.

The first set started perfectly for the Chinese player, who took an early break and led by 2:0. However, the 12th-seeded American returned the break immediately and equalized the score. Both players exchanged one more break, but without advantage for any of them. In the 11th game of the set, Cori “Coco” Gauff broke the serve of her opponent and served for the set. The American did not make a mistake and won the set by 7:5.

In the second set, the situation was quite similar. The score was equal until the 11th game when the American teenager broke Shuai Zhang on zero and won the match from the first match point.

Thus, in the quarter-finals, Cori “Coco” Gauff will face Caroline Garcia.

The Australian tennis player Ajla Tomljanovic also qualified for the quarter-finals after defeating Liudmila Samsonova by 2-0 (7:6, 6:1). In the next round, she will face the 5th-seeded Ons Jabeur, who eliminated Veronika Kudermetova by 2-0 (7:6, 6:4).
