Cori Coco Gauff qualified for the second round of the WTA 500 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart

The fifth-seeded Cori Coco Gauff qualified for the second round of the clay tennis tournament WTA 500 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart with a prize pool of more than 678,000 EUR. The American tennis played prevailed by 2-1 (6:2, 4:6, 7:6) against Veronika Kudermetova.

The 19-year-old Cori Coco Gauff broke the serve of her Russian opponent three times in the first set to take the lead, but then conceded a tie, allowing serious hesitation on her forehand.

The American teenager served to win the match at 5:3 in the third set, but Veronika Kudermetova returned to the match breaking her and moving the set to a tiebreak. In it, Cori Coco Gauff raced to a 6-1 lead to win 7-3 after 165 minutes on the court despite committing 53 unforced errors.

In the next round of the tournament, Cori Coco Gauff will face Anastasia Potapova (Russia), against whom she has two wins in a total of three matches.

Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic) defeated Maria Sakkari (Greece) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:3) and advanced to the second round of the tournament.

Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) also qualified for the second round after defeating Jule Niemeier (Germany) by 2-0 (7:5, 6:3).
