The American tennis player Cori Coco Gauff prevailed over the British opponent Emma Raducanu by 2-0 (6:3, 7:6) in the second round of the Australian Open. So Coco Gauff proved her excellent form from the start of the year in the talent match.
The 18-year-old Cori Coco Gauff took the first set convincingly, but US Open 2021 champion Emma Raducanu managed to claw her way back into the match and went to a tiebreak, even having two set points in the second set, but eventually lost.
“I just said to myself that I want to stay here. Emma played really good tennis at the end of the match and the whole match was great,”, said the American tennis player after the victory. It was Coco Gauff’s 100th WTA win since her debut four years ago years. She became the first woman to do so before turning 19 since Caroline Wozniacki in 2009.
Wimbledon 2022 champion Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan advanced to the third round after beating Slovenian player Kaja Juvan with 2-0 (6:2, 6:1), hitting 23 winners.
Qualifier Cristina Bucsa (Spain) saved a match point in the second set before beating former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu (Canada) by 2-1 (2:6, 7:6, 6:4). She will face world’s number one Iga Swiatek in the third round.
Another former US Open champion – Sloane Stephens, lost in two sets to Russian Anastasia Potapova by 0-2 (6:7, 4:6).
Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia, who is 17th-seeded, survived a three-set match against Hungarian Anna Bondar and eventually won by 2-1 (7:6, 5:7, 6:0).
