Cori Coco Gauff needs some time to perfect her new serve

American tennis talent Cori Coco Gauff racked up 35 double faults in her last three matches at the WTA 1000 Rome Open, but said technical changes to her serve meant she needed time to get things right.

A powerful serve is a powerful weapon, but the US Open champion averaged ten double faults in her five matches on red courts before the tournament in Rome.

Cori Coco Gauff also committed 11 double faults in her 2-1 (5:7, 6:4, 6:1) win over Paula Badosa (Spain), but she stressed that she is already seeing improvements in her serve ahead of Roland Garros.

“I’m hitting a strong first serve and I know maybe I’ll mess up more. I’m finding the balance now between hitting hard and knowing when to slow down to get the shot in”, said Cori Coco Gauff, who is a 2022 Roland Garros finalist. “I bet my serve will become very dangerous. Even though I want to win this tournament, I’m thinking long-term. I don’t want to lose my serve at 120 mph and I’m going to try to do that”, added she.

Cori Coco Gauff, coached by Brad Gilbert and Jean-Christophe Faurel, said he is trying to make some technical improvements to his serve.
