Colombia qualified for the quarter-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup after defeating Jamaica by 1-0

Colombia defeated Jamaica by 1-0 in the Round of 16 of the FIFA Women’s World Cup and qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament. The match was also notable for being the first official clash between the two teams. The only goal for the South Americans fell at the beginning of the second half and was the work of Catalina Usme (51′).

Colombian girls started the match well and only managed to increase their advantage as time went on. The first dangerous shot was the work of Rebecca Spencer, but it did not create a serious danger for the representatives of the Caribbean island. On the other side, Catalina Perez Jaramillo stood with almost nothing to do.

The Colombian women realized their advantage six minutes into the second half, when a long pass from the left zone found Catalina Usme completely uncovered in the penalty area, and she had no problem scoring the only goal of the match. It was only then that the Jamaican girls stepped up and tried to get an equalizer, but it never came and their best chance was missed by Jody Brown.

Thus, Colombia reached the quarter-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, where they will face England, who yesterday defeated Nigeria after penalties. The two teams will meet in Sydney.
