The world’s number six Cori Coco Gauff (USA) won the title of the strong tennis tournament WTA 1000 China Open in Beijing with a prize fund of almost 9 million USD. In the final, fourth-seeded Cori Coco Gauff defeated US Open semifinalist Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic) by 2-0 (6:1, 6:3) in 76 minutes.
The American completely dominated the first set, and in the second she overcame a deficit of 0:2, winning six of the next seven games and took the trophy.
Cori Coco Gauff became the youngest champion in Beijing in 14 years. The 20-year-old tennis player is the second winner from the United States in the competition after Serena Williams’ titles in 2004 and 2013.
“I want to congratulate you Karolina, it’s great to see you back on the court”, said Coco Gauff to her rival Karolina Muchova, who has been sidelined for a long time after suffering a wrist injury at the 2023 US Open. “I think you are an amazing tennis player and you deserve everything. I hope you play many more finals”, added the American tennis player.
It is Coco Gauff’s second title of the season and eighth of her career. She started 2024 with a successful defense of her trophy at the WTA 250 ASB Classic in Auckland (New Zealand). In Beijing she won her second WTA 1000 title after winning her first last summer in Cincinnati.
Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini (Italy) became the fifth champions in doubles, who defeated Chan Hao-ching (Taiwan) and Veronika Kudermetova (Russia) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:4).
